Columbia River Knife and Tool: CRKT Minimalist Katana, CR-2394


The 2394 CRKT Minimalist Katana Neck Knife, designed by Alan Folts of Melbourne, Florida, features a 3.56 inch trailing point fixed blade made of 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, .13 inch thick, with a compound grind, non reflective bead blast finish, swedged spine to lessen weight, and a notched thumb rest for secure purchase. The Minimalist Katana has full tang construction for strength, finger grooves for secure grip, green and black fiber infused resin scales, and a braided fob. A black polypropylene sheath with neck lanyard is included. The CRKT Minimalist Katana has an overall length of 6.63 inches, and it weighs 2.40 ounces, 3.70 ounces with the sheath. Made in China.

I could not decide between the Katana and Persian style models, so I bought them both. I was not certain which one I liked best, thought the Katana. Wife made the choice easy as when I opened them up she pointed at the Persians and said, "That one is MINE!"

Decision made.

These are CRKT knives. Thery are well made, well balanced, and very sharp (I caught her using the Persian to prepare a pork butt for smoking, mmmmm).

What you should know is that the handles are perfect. They have been nicely rounded and smoothed such that the are a joy to hold. The blades are gorgeous, and the knife is well balanced. The sheaths hold the kives well. I was interested in scout / horizontal carry. I believe that you could wear these as neck knives. Once in the holster, there is sufficient purchase on the handle to grasp and remove it. The belt clip is serviceable, but must the belt goes thru it, you can't remove the holster without removing your belt.

Buy both you know you want both.

Compact, very lightweight fixed blade fits into my tackle box or backpack. Weighs less, with sheath, than my folding EDC. Thicker than usual blade and tang steel adds strength to the handle. KnivesPlus price cinches the deal.
