KA-BAR Knives: KABAR TDI Investigator Knife, KA-1493

The KA-BAR TDI Law Enforcement Knife was designed by John Benner, founder of Tactical Defense Institute. New to the TDI Series, the 1493 KABAR TDI Investigator Knife is a compact EDC self defense tool that features a 2.71 inch drop point fixed blade made of AUS 8A stainless steel, with a Rockwell hardness of 57-59, non reflective black finish and the TDI logo. The TDI Investigator has full tang construction for strength, black nylon fiberglass scales, and ergonomic pistol grip configuration with notches for secure grip. A MOLLE compatible hard plastic friction fit sheath is included. The KA-BAR TDI Investigator Knife has an overall length of 5.0 inches, and it weighs 6.4 ounces. Made in Taiwan.

What it need to be! 04/22/2020

I've carried both the original and large TDI knives for several years and have been certified by John Benner at TDI as a edge weapons instructor. This new version is really hitting the mark. The handle fits nicely into my grip without any loss of control with the shorter length and it conceals perfectly. The new scabbard and clip are much more secure than the original designs. The gripping hand gets a much higher purchase on deployment with a nice cut-out and the it has multiple eye-lets for more angles of carry. The clip allows for better retention since it won't flex / stretch like the original metal version. The blade is the same dimensions so if you happen to already have an aftermarket scabbard, like the "Phlster Fightworthy Scabbard", you can still use it. If you don't have a TDI yet or are considering the new version, go for it. Just remember to follow all local laws on concealed knives!

Worth Investigating the TDI Investigator 04/19/2020

I was looking at the Ka-Bar TDI for a while, and then noticed the smaller TDI Investigator and knew that was the right one for me due to it's size. The 2.71" blade is within legal limits for EDC. It feels great in the hand due to the shape and the nylon-fiberglass handle material. It slides in and out of the durable holster quite nicely. The blade is sharp out of the box and is great for cutting boxes open, cutting fishing line, and for last-ditch defense. I changed the clip on the holster to accommodate the way I want to carry it, and the screws are a bit tight. You need a bit of elbow grease to get them loose, but once you do it is easy to rearrange the clip any way you like. This is a great knife at a great price. I highly recommend this know to anyone who collects knives; or anyone who is looking to get a good EDC knife.

First off, Knives plus was a great company to do business with....item was in stock, priced right and shipping was reasonable and fast. The Ka Bar Investigator 1493 is definitely a specialty item. I carry mine on my weak side in case I can't get to (or need to protect) my side arm. Just the right size and the case isn't bad. Personally, I'll take a fixed blade over a folder any day......it's faster and stronger with no chance of malfunctioning or closing the blade on your fingers. I actually like this knife better than a Karambit.

Ordering and Shipping was quick and simple. Came in a genuine unopened new box with some Knives Plus stickers.
Pros: No defects, sheath works as advertised, good grip, nice sharp blade. Very intuitive design and function.
Cons: If you want to switch the buckle on the sheath, you'll have a hard time unscrewing it.
First time Knives Plus customer, would order from them again and recommended for all your knife needs!
