The APAD-02 TOPS Apache Dawn Rockies Edition Knife is a versatile outdoor workhorse that features a 6.75 inch clip point blade made of tough 1095 tool steel, .250 inch thick, with a 6.13 inch cutting edge and a Rockwell hardness of 56-58. The blade has a tumbled finish, Harpoon style tip with spine swedge, a notched thumb rest and a large choil for secure grip and precise control. The Apache Dawn Rockies Edition has full tang construction for strength; black G10 scales with super grippy Rocky Mountain Tread texture, pronounced finger groove for comfortable grip, and an extended pommel with large lanyard hole. A MOLLE compatible OD nylon sheath is included. The TOPS Knives Apache Dawn Rockies Edition Knife has an overall length of 11.88 inches, and it weighs 15.5 ounces; 21.0 ounces with the sheath. As a field knife, the Apache Dawn is more than capable. The blade is long enough to handle many heavy tasks, but it also has a finger choil so the user can choke up for more controlled cutting. It has a nice belly to the tip, which is great for skinning game. This knife is ready to perform a variety of cutting tasks.
As a combat knife, the Apache Dawn really excels. With the harpoon-style tip and the thin swedge, the spine pushes the blade down as it enters its target, making a wider cut and providing good penetration.
